Police investigate shooting at 1200 block of Kansas

Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a shooting at 4:41 p.m. Dec. 30 in the 1200 block of Kansas Avenue.

According to a police spokesman, officers responded to the shooting and found a man in his 20s outside a home, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was taken to an area hospital, where he was in critical condition, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Police investigate homicide at 9th and Barnett

Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating a homicide just after 3:30 p.m. Dec. 30 at North 9th Street and Barnett Avenue.

A police spokesman stated that police responded to the report of a shooting at that location, and once there, they discovered someone else had already transported the victim to a hospital before the police arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the spokesman.

The identity of the deceased victim will not be released until there is positive identification and family notification, according to police.

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, will sponsor “One Thing Remains” from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 30. It will include adoration, reflection, prayer, worship, reconciliation and a social time. The event is geared to families, high school and college students. The Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick Catholic Church are sponsoring a chili and bingo event from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, in the parish center, 94th and State Avenue. The cost will be $7 for adults, $4 for children under 12 and $20 for family. The menu includes all-you-can-eat chili and hot dogs. Bingo will be $1 per game.

Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., will observe the first Sunday in Epiphany at 10 a.m. Jan. 7.
