A cool start to the new year

Light snow was falling this morning on Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kansas.

A surge of cold air made the first day of the new year a cold one.

The high today is expected to be 21 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, with wind chills in the single digits.

It was 21 at 11 a.m., with a wind chill of 10, the weather service said. The temperature is expected to drop to 17 degrees overnight, according to the weather service.

Some snow flurries were seen this morning in northern Wyandotte County.

Today, New Year’s Day, occasional light snow is possible before 2 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 21 with a north northwest wind of 6 to 9 mph. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Tonight, it will be cloudy with a low of 14 and a north northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 31 and a west southwest wind of 3 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 21 and a southwest wind of 6 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny with a high near 42 and a calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 26, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 48, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 29, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 52, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 33, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 51, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain with a low of 37, according to the weather service.

Monday, there is a 30 percent chance of rain with a high near 51, the weather service said.
