KCK Presbyterian Manor Supports Art by Seniors

Kansas senior citizens are invited to express their creativity and artistic skills in an Art is Ageless® program sponsored by Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America. The Wichita-based non-profit organization operates 18 senior communities in Kansas and Missouri. Kansas City’s Presbyterian Manor is at 7850 Freeman in Kansas City, KS.

A new Web site, ArtIsAgeless.org, has been launched to showcase the programs’ original works of art. Both Manor residents and non-residents are eligible to submit their work.

“Art is Ageless is about so much more than the art itself,” said Ms. Charley Lewis, marketing director for Kansas City’s Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America facility. “It’s really about the artists and how art helps them tell their stories.”
The Art is Ageless® program encourages Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America (PMMA) residents and other area seniors to express their creativity through an annual art competition and exhibit, musical and dramatic events, educational opportunities and current events discussions.
“This website allows us to showcase the works of all our artists, not just those who participate in the competition or who are featured in our annual calendar,” Lewis said.
Art is Ageless encompasses related instructional opportunities in the 18 PMMA communities in Kansas and Missouri, partnerships with community organizations for learning and life enrichment and provide physical and mental stimulus for residents in addition to the annual competition and juried exhibit.
“Our residents and friends of the Art is Ageless program are proving that art, in any form, is an ageless ambition,” Lewis emphasized, “It’s not important whether one first picked up a brush as a youngster or completed their first drawing after turning 80!”
She continued, “The Art is Ageless program is just one way that PMMA supports a philosophy of empowering older adults to live the way they want to live.”
