Library plans children’s tea party
A children’s tea party is planned from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 28, at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to dress in their best holiday outfit, bring their favorite doll, stuffed animal or toy and attend an afternoon tea served on real china. NAACP to meet Jan. 8

Because of a holiday on the first Tuesday of January, the Kansas City, Kansas, Branch of the NAACP will meet Jan. 8 at the Bethany Medical Building, second-floor meeting room, 21 N. 12th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The branch’s newly elected officers and executive committee members will be sworn in, followed by the regular executive committee meeting at 6 p.m. and the regular membership meeting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend the branch meeting and to invite others to come.

The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet at 11:15 a.m. Jan. 10 at the KCKCC Dr. Thomas R. Burke Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The guest speaker will be Major Rance Quinn of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, who will give a 90-minute presentation on active shooter training procedures. The luncheon fee is $25. Grinter Place to continue Second Saturday series on Jan. 12
Grinter Place will continue its Second Saturday speakers series on Jan. 12. The program will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, and the topic will be “How the Junior League Helped Save the Grinter House and How Volunteers Built the Grinter Event Space Barn,” presented by Georgia Howlett. The historic Grinter House is at South 78th and K-32 in Kansas City, Kansas. In conjunction with the free program, there will be free doughnuts, coffee or juice. Each program will be about 35 minutes long. After the program, there will be the opportunity for questions and comments. Tours of the Grinter House also will be available, for an admission fee of $6 for adults and $3 for students. The Second Saturday Speaker Series will present educational programs about the history of Grinter House, the oldest home still standing in Wyandotte County, and the area. Future programs in the Grinter Second Saturday Speaker Series include Feb. 9 – topic and speaker to be determined; and March 9 – “March Madness James Naismith First Person Re-Enactment,” presented by Bill Nicks. Grinter House closed for the winter on Oct. 13 and opens again on March 13. Regular hours from March 13 to Oct. 12 will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
