Flood advisory in effect

An urban and small stream flood advisory is in effect from now through 5:15 p.m. Aug. 25, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain was falling at 2:30 p.m. in Wyandotte County, and according to the weather service, 1 inch had already fallen in the area.

Kansas City, Kansas, Edwardsville and Bonner Springs are among the areas that may experience flooding, the weather service said. Other cities in the area also are under the flood advisory.

The weather service advised motorists not to drive through flooded roads, but to turn around and take another route.

The weather service said there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, with a slight chance of showers tonight.

There is an 80 percent chance of rain and storms on Monday, the weather service said. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is in the Monday forecast.

Rain is also possible Monday night, according to the weather service.
