Turner Days parade, other activities today
Turner Days will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday. The parade travels north on South 55th Street from Douglas to Inland. Booths will open after the parade at Steineger Field. Many activities are planned for Turner Days on Saturday and Sunday, including a 5K run Saturday morning, mud volleyball contest, live music performances and vendors. A car show is planned on Sunday, along with other activities. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information visit

Renaissance Festival continues
The Renaissance Festival will continue from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 12, 13 and 14, at 130th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. Tickets are $22.95 for adults and $13.95 for children 5 to 12 years old. This is the last weekend this season for the Renaissance Festival. For more information, visit

Candidate event to be Oct. 12
Residents may meet candidates at an event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at Klamm Park, Cleveland Avenue and North 22nd Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Voters who want to register or update their registration if they have moved will be assisted. The deadline to register or update registration in Kansas is Oct. 15. Participants include candidates Gary E. Bradley-Lopez, Randy Lopez, Hattie L. Smith, Joseph Straws and Frieda Tresvan for USD 500; LaRon Thompson for BPU; Jammie A. Johnson and Paul “P.J.” Jones for KCKCC Board of Trustees; and Tscher Manck for Register of Deeds. The event is sponsored by the candidates.

Family story time planned
Family story time is planned from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the youth services craft room at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Alcott features horror art
For the Halloween season, the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, is featuring horror art. Artists whose works will be on display on Saturday, Oct. 12, will include Darryl Woods, Joshua Hoffine, Dan Higgins, Rodney Blackstone, Michael Valverde, Maggie Killian, Ivan Fetters, Cheyenne Banda, Rickie Kelley, Drew Pouncil and Marc Manley. KCKCC presents ‘Into the Woods’ musical
“Into the Woods,” a musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, will be presented from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Kansas City Kansas Community College Performing Arts Theater, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The Theater Department production includes stories from the Grimm and Perrault fairy tales, and includes several storybook characters. It is directed by Cinnamon Paulette. The play also will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
