Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, are turning red to show their support for the Kansas City Chiefs, who play in the Super Bowl in Miami on Sunday.
In downtown Kansas City, Kansas, City Hall and the nearby Memorial Hall have been illuminated with red tones at night.
At the Kansas Speedway, the pylon with race results is displaying a Chiefs logo.
And at The Legends Outlets at I-70 and I-435, there are plans for a Chiefs watch event on a big outdoor LED screen on the lawn of the shopping center on Sunday.
The Chiefs’ logo has been up at the top of the pylon at Kansas Speedway for about a week, according to Kelly Hale of the Speedway. She said she’s heard that Kansas race car driver Clint Bowyer will be attending the Super Bowl this year.
Also, the Kansas Speedway has made a friendly wager about the outcome of Sunday’s game with the Sonoma Raceway in California, she said. If the Chiefs win, Sonoma will send a package of Boudin bread products, including a Kansas City team logo made entirely of gourmet sourdough, to KC. If the 49ers win, Kansas Speedway will send barbecue from Jack Stack’s BBQ to Sonoma.
“We’re excited to be having a fun competition with Sonoma,” Hale said.
At the Legends Outlets at I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas, fans may watch the big game on an outdoor LED screen on the Lawn at the Legends. Kickoff of the game is at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Legends Outlets is setting up Kansas City inflatables on The Lawn for fans who want to take photos during shopping center hours. The center is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Also, KC City of Champions, a pop-up Kansas City sports apparel store at The Legends Outlets will offer official, NFL licensed merchandise during regular shopping center hours from Friday through Sunday, Feb. 2.
Aggravated assault reported on Strong Avenue
Aggravated assault was reported at 12:25 a.m. in the 2500 block of Strong Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
According to police, a victim followed suspects to the area to get illegal drugs. Then the suspect put a knife to the victim and poured fluids on the victim, the report stated. The suspect then fled.
Burglary to business reported on 7th Street
A burglary to a business was reported at 3:22 a.m. in the 300 block of North 7th Sreet, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. The door to the business was broken out and property was missing from the business, according to the report.
Burglary reported at Central Avenue business
Unknown suspects entered a business in the 900 block of Central Avenue about 4:27 a.m. and took property from inside the business, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. A security guard located the damage and called police.
Indecent liberties reported
Kansas City, Kansas, police reported on social media that the mother of a minor victim made a report that the victim may have had sex with a suspect.
Officers pursue vehicle on Central Avenue
Officers tried to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation and the vehicle failed to stop about 11:54 p.m. Jan. 30 in the 900 block of Central Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. A pursuit began and went for a short distance, according to police.
The suspect struck a Board of Public Utilities electrical box, and officers took the suspect into custody after the suspect was rescued from the vehicle, according to the report.
