Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident at 9:19 p.m. March 29 in the 4400 block of Victory Drive.
The victim was identified as Joseph Smith, age 33, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, according to a Kansas City, Kansas Police Department spokesman. He was driving a pickup truck.
When police arrived at the accident location on Sunday night, they found a black pickup truck occupied by two males.
The driver was found deceased at the accident. The passenger of the vehicle was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, police stated.
The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Traffic Support – Critical Collision Response Team, the spokesman stated.
The exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to southbound Turner Diagonal Freeway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, April 1, for grading work, weather permitting.
Traffic will be diverted using signage and traffic cones, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. Alternative routes are suggested.
KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone, according to a spokesman.
