Kansas City’s first Mental Health First Aid Day is planned for Thursday, July 10. Six sites throughout metropolitan Kansas City, including one in Kansas City, Kan., are participating in the event. It is sponsored by the Metropolitan Council of Community Mental Health Centers. A man who died April 20 in the 700 block of North 70th Terrace has been identified, a Kansas City, Kan., police spokesman said. The man who died was identified as Willie L. Henderson, 36, a resident of Kansas City, Kan. Police were called to the address about 12:40 p.m. April 20. The case is under review by the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office, the police spokesman said. The cause of death has not been confirmed, police said. The Sunderland Foundation, which for 69 years has donated to many causes throughout the Kansas City area, has made the largest donation in its history to support the construction of a new hospital for The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. The $2 million dollar grant will go toward Cambridge North, a new 92-bed hospital on the Kansas City, Kan., campus to support surgical oncology and neurosurgery. The gift was announced by Kent Sunderland, president of the Sunderland Foundation, and Charles Sunderland, who is chairman of Ash Grove Cement. (KC Scout photo) The drivers of two vehicles have serious and life-threatening injuries following a three-vehicle accident near 106th and Parallel Parkway, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department. The preliminary investigation showed that a vehicle traveling westbound on Parallel Parkway struck two vehicles turning eastbound onto Parallel from 106th. Derrick Miller Jr. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Derrick E. Miller Jr. graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
