Both sessions will start at 8:25 a.m. and will be in the first floor conference room, lobby level, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Like many other utilities in Kansas, the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities will lift its temporary moratorium on disconnects for nonpayment on June 1. While that means the BPU can shut off the utilities for nonpayment, the utility does not intend to cut off customers en masse, according to David Mehlhaff, BPU spokesman. “We’re letting them know the moratorium is ending so they can prepare,” he said. At the Board of Public Utilities’ 6 p.m. telephone and Zoom internet meeting April 1, General Manager Bill Johnson said in answer to a question that the BPU had no employees who tested positive for COVID-19. However, there were six to eight BPU employees in self-quarantine, he said, due to people having possible risk with travel.
