A bicyclist was injured in an accident with a vehicle at 7:56 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the 1000 block of Parallel Parkway, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. According to the initial investigation, the driver of a dark-colored vehicle was traveling on Parallel Parkway when a male bicyclist struck the vehicle. The cyclist was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and is receiving care, the spokesman stated. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. The Board of Public Utilities is warning customers about phone scams targeting electricity customers. The latest scam involves telephone callers claiming to be from a utility company and then using various techniques to defraud customers, according to a BPU spokesman. Some threaten customers with disconnecting electric service to their home or business if they do not make a payment immediately. The interchange at 110th and I-70 will be dedicated in a ceremony June 3 in honor of Cantwell’s contributions to the state and the nation. Cantwell, who died in 1996, was the former sheriff of Wyandotte County, also was superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol and was a U.S. Marshal.
