Some area restaurants are helping first responders and health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. McDonald’s and Domino’s are among the local restaurants helping frontline workers. McDonalds has been giving a free “thank you meal” to first responders and health care workers through carryout and drive-through at McDonald’s locations. Today, several hospital officials in Greater Kansas City told metro area elected officials that they are concerned about hospital capacity, with COVID-19 numbers on the rise. Community organizations and businesses are allowed to apply for CARES Act funding that has become available to Wyandotte County. The application for CARES Act grants through the Unified Government were posted on the UG’s website on Monday, June 29. Applications will close on July 13. The UG is expected to receive about $37.3 million in available funding. A fire truck approached the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and West 36th Street on Saturday morning on its way to an emergency. An apartment fire at 4146 Booth at 9:47 a.m. March 15 was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials, according to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department.
