A fatal accident was reported about 7:31 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, in the 4100 block of North 59th Street, according to Kansas City, Kansas, police. A police spokesman said an initial investigation showed that a single vehicle was northbound on North 59th Street when it left the roadway. One driver, a man in his early 40s, was found deceased at the scene, the police spokesman stated. The Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City has issued an urgent need for blood donations as the local blood supply has been dropping, according to a spokesman. There was less than a week’s supply for some blood types, according to the spokesman. The goal of the eight-week program is to improve the health and wellness of each participant by “walking” enough miles to travel across the state of Kansas. Teams will include four people and starting Sept. 23, each team member will complete at least two miles of walking, jogging or running per day. Michael E. Mastel Michael Edward Mastel, 53, has been bound over for trial on five counts against a minor, including one charge of rape. Mastel was employed as a Wyandotte County Sheriff’s adult detention deputy when the charges were announced on April 16. After a preliminary hearing Friday, Mastel was bound over for trial on one count of rape, one count of aggravated criminal sodomy and three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to a spokesman for the Wyandotte County District Attorney.
