Four high school juniors and seniors in the Kansas City area have been selected as Student Leaders in a program sponsored by Bank of America. The students received paid summer internships at local nonprofits and helped improve their communities. Now in its 15th year in the Kansas City area, the program recognized 74 local student leaders, helping them chart a path for success. Nearly 3,500 young people from across the country gained skills and workforce experience through this program since 2004. A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for central Wyandotte County until 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. At 3:37 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Bonner Springs, moving east at 30 mph, the weather service said. The storm has 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, the weather service said. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, and also to roofs, siding and trees. Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Kansas City, Kansas, are listed in the path of the storm. The T-Bones struggled to make the RailCats pay when they had runners on base, falling to Gary SouthShore, 7-1, on Friday evening. Accidents were reported on highways in Wyandotte County during wet weather and thunderstorms on Tuesday. Some of the accidents, according to Kansas Highway Patrol reports, included: Ford Mustang spins, collides with Dodge Ram on I-70 A Ford Mustang was eastbound on I-70 west of the 78th Street exit at 3:52 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, when the driver lost control, the car spun and crossed two lanes of traffic, according to the highway patrol trooper’s report.
