About $609,403 was given away to charitable agencies Thursday through the Hollywood Casino and SVV (Schlitterbahn) grants. The funds are given to the Unified Government as part of agreements made with the casino and Schlitterbahn to provide funds for local charities. Agencies submitted grant applications. UG commissioners then made the decision on what nonprofit agencies and programs will receive funds, and how much they receive. U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson held Kobach in contempt for failing to follow her 2016 order to fully register and notify voters he had blocked for not providing proof of citizenship. Robinson issued the contempt citation at the urging of the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents Kansans challenging the state’s strict voter registration laws. A passenger was injured when a Chevy Trailblazer went off the road and hit a barrier wall on southbound I-35 near 18th Street in Kansas City, Kansas, at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 1.
