The candidate filing deadline passed at noon Thursday, June 1, and a list of candidates was posted around 3 p.m. by the Wyandotte County Election Commissioner’s office. The primary election will be Aug. 1 and the general election will be Nov. 7. Five candidates are running for mayor-CEO of the Unified Government. The Kansas Senate and House voted Thursday to allow public health care facilities to continue banning concealed weapons. The 24-16 Senate vote and 91-33 House vote send the bill to Gov. Sam Brownback for consideration. A state law taking effect July 1 will allow people to carry concealed guns into any public building that is not secured by armed guards and metal detectors. The Fairfax Industrial Association presented a petition with more than 400 names opposing the re-entry facility’s location at 925 Sunshine Road.
