Kansans safely disposed of more than 6 tons of unused medicines during last week’s National Drug Take-Back Day, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said today. Kansas law enforcement officers collected 13,245 pounds of medicines at 108 locations throughout the state during last Saturday’s event, according to a report from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency. The total was the largest single-day collection since the program began in 2010. The company issued a news release today stating that the average driver in Kansas City, Kan., will have a collision every 13.3 years, compared to the national average where drivers experience a collision every 10 years. A transformer exploded around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the Quindaro Power Plant, according to the Board of Public Utilities spokesman. A fire in connection with the transformer explosion is now out, said David Mehlhaff, BPU spokesman. Because the transformer exploded a little distance from the Quindaro Power Plant, there was no damage to the power plant itself, he added. The power plant is at 3601 N. 12th, Kansas City, Kan.
