The 20th golf classic to benefit the Sisters, Servants of Mary is set for Friday, June 26, at Painted Hills Golf Course, 7101 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. Proceeds will go toward renovating the Sisters’ convent. Registration and lunch are from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Amino Brothers Co., Inc., is the lunch sponsor. (National Weather Service graphic) After a warm, sunny day, Wyandotte County could see thunderstorms tonight into early Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Today’s high will be 91 degrees, the weather service said, with a heat index possibly approaching 100 degrees but staying under the century mark. There is a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight, the weather service said. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall and local flooding, according to the weather service. Police are investigating a shooting death that occurred during the night in the 2500 block of Ridge Avenue. The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department responded at 2:34 a.m. May 30 to reports of a shooting. When they arrived, the officers found a woman in the street, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, a police spokesman said. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification, police said. A car overturned this morning on U.S. 73 near Parallel Parkway, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report. The accident happened at 6:17 a.m. May 1. A Saturn northbound on U.S. 73 tried to avoid an unknown vehicle, and the driver of the Saturn lost control, according to the trooper’s report. The Saturn then entered the median and overturned, the report stated. The driver of the Saturn, a 32-year-old Lawrence man, was taken to the hospital with a possible injury, according to the report.
