An accident was reported on I-35 northbound, just south of 7th Street, at 5:20 a.m. Jan. 1. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Ford Contour was northbound on I-35 in Kansas City, Kan., when it drove onto the left shoulder and struck the barrier wall. A passenger in the Contour, a 38-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., had a possible injury and was taken to a hospital in Kansas City, Kan., the report stated. An injury-accident was reported at 12:22 p.m. Jan. 1 on I-635 southbound just south of State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a 2013 Chevy was southbound on I-635. For an unknown reason, the Chevy veered left and struck the inside guard rail. The vehicle continued southbound without stopping, the trooper’s report stated. The driver, a 46-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man, went to a hospital with a possible injury, the trooper’s report stated. Kansas City, Kan., police said four pedestrians were injured about 2:32 p.m. Jan. 30 in the 1300 block of Troup Avenue. Preliminary reports are that a silver Mercedes traveling eastbound on Troup Avenue when the vehicle struck four persons. They were taken to the hospital with critical injuries, police said. The four persons were said by some sources to be teens. Police said the driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene. The accident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team. The temperature was 8 degrees at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, with a wind chill of minus 1. Earlier in the morning the wind chill was minus 6. The National Weather Service warned residents about the sub-zero wind chills across the region. It will warm up a little bit tonight and also on New Year’s Day. Grinter Place, 78th and K-32, is planning two holiday events in December. An evening of visiting with local artists, viewing their works, visiting with and listening to local authors, plus live music played by local musicians, is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at Grinter Place. A federal judge has found former Kansas City area builder F. Jeffrey Miller violated the terms of his release from federal prison after hearing evidence Miller was involved in a new real estate scam, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Monday. In a 16-page order dated Nov. 26, U.S. District Judge Julie A. Robinson cited evidence that Miller lied to his probation officer about his involvement in a company called Tri-States Holding, LLC. She cited “substantial evidence about the fraudulent practices and transactions” by the company. Miller, 53, will remain in custody awaiting sentencing. Miller was convicted by a jury of…

Community members turned out for the funeral today of Machole Stewart, a 10-year-old Kansas City, Kan., girl who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Sunday evening while she was inside a home. Hundreds of persons are volunteering on Thanksgiving morning to assemble hot homemade meals and deliver them with groceries to more than 1,200 people through the United Prayer Movement’s project. Pleasant Green Baptist Church, 340 David L. Gray Drive, Kansas City, Kan., is the hub for this effort. Volunteers signed up in advance and will assemble meals for home delivery, and deliver them this morning. Deliveries are made throughout Greater Kansas City. This program, the effort of many churches and synagogues, also will provide the same meal effort on Christmas. In 2013, the program provided 2,635 dinners, 391 bags of groceries…
