A Kansas City, Kan., student is participating in Cornell College’s alternative spring break program. Ellen Larson, Kansas City, Kan., is one of more than 100 Cornell students in the program. Students involved with alternative spring break spend their weeklong break on a service trip. Larson is taking part in a trip to New Orleans, and will work with the Volunteers of America of Greater New Orleans to help create affordable housing for people with disabilities and senior citizens. An accident was reported on I-35 northbound, just south of 7th Street, at 5:20 a.m. Jan. 1. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Ford Contour was northbound on I-35 in Kansas City, Kan., when it drove onto the left shoulder and struck the barrier wall. A passenger in the Contour, a 38-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., had a possible injury and was taken to a hospital in Kansas City, Kan., the report stated. An injury-accident was reported at 12:22 p.m. Jan. 1 on I-635 southbound just south of State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a 2013 Chevy was southbound on I-635. For an unknown reason, the Chevy veered left and struck the inside guard rail. The vehicle continued southbound without stopping, the trooper’s report stated. Kansas City, Kan., police said four pedestrians were injured about 2:32 p.m. Jan. 30 in the 1300 block of Troup Avenue. Preliminary reports are that a silver Mercedes traveling eastbound on Troup Avenue when the vehicle struck four persons. They were taken to the hospital with critical injuries, police said. The four persons were said by some sources to be teens. Police said the driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene. A federal judge has found former Kansas City area builder F. Jeffrey Miller violated the terms of his release from federal prison after hearing evidence Miller was involved in a new real estate scam, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Monday. In a 16-page order dated Nov. 26, U.S. District Judge Julie A. Robinson cited evidence that Miller lied to his probation officer about his involvement in a company called Tri-States Holding, LLC.
