The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 13, for lunch at the KCKCC Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
The program topic will be on the KCKCC TEC, “Highlighting Technical and Manufacturing Educational Programs and Opportunities.”
The welcome will be from Michael Vitale, vice president of academic affairs; presentation from Patrick McCartney, executive director of Endowment Association; and a tour will be given of the TEC.
Kohl’s Department Stores is sponsoring a Kohl’s Care Scholarship program this year.
The scholarships recognize youth who have made a positive difference volunteering in their communities.
Nominations for youth ages 6 to 18 will be accepted until March 14 at kohskids.com.
Parents, teachers, neighbors or friends may nominate outstanding students who help others.
Two from each store will win a $50 Kohl’s gift card.
Nearly 200 will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward higher education.
Ten national winners will be awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships for high education. Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on behalf of each national winner.

A Minnesota-based roofing company has been banned from doing business in Kansas until it cooperates with the attorney general’s investigation into its business practices, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced today.
In a lawsuit filed in Shawnee County District Court, Schmidt accused Pinnacle Exteriors LLC, Eagan, Minn., of violating the Kansas Consumer Protection Act while operating in Kansas.
The lawsuit accuses the company of engaging in deceptive and unconscionable practices while selling roofing services door-to-door and of attempting to collect money from consumers for work that was not performed.
Shawnee County District Judge Rebecca Crotty last week entered a temporary restraining order prohibiting the company from operating in Kansas until it complies with an investigative subpoena issued by the attorney general.
The company is known to have operated in Shawnee and Reno counties. Anyone with information about the company is encouraged to contact the attorney general’s consumer protection division at 800-432-2310.
The attorney general’s office also administers the new Roofing Registration Act, which requires all roofing contractors operating in Kansas to register with the attorney general.
