A Dodge Ram pickup truck was taking the exit ramp from eastbound I-70 to southbound Turner Diagonal, about milepost 415.6, at 7:50 p.m. Jan. 2 when it drove off the edge of the curve, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s report.
The truck then slid down the embankment, struck the ditch, then struck a tree and overturned, the trooper’s report stated. It came to rest on its roof, the report said.
The driver of the truck, a 73-year-old man from Kansas City, Kan., was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the trooper’s report. He was not wearing a seat belt, the report said.
A crash on northbound I-35 near Southwest Boulevard at 5:26 p.m. Dec. 31 occurred when a driver had a medical episode, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.
The driver died from a condition not related to the accident, the report stated.
The driver, a 76-year-old man from Roeland Park, Kan., had a medical episode and the passenger, a 69-year-old woman from Roeland Park, took control of the vehicle.
The vehicle then went into the ditch, according to the trooper’s report.
The passenger was not injured.
A single-vehicle crash on I-70 on Jan. 1 sent an 18-year-old driver to the hospital.
A Chevy S-10 truck was westbound on I-70 near Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kan., about 1:21 p.m. when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp bend in the road, causing the vehicle to strike the right barrier wall, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.
The driver, an 18-year-old man from Overland Park, Kan., was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the trooper’s report.
