A sport utility vehicle overturned in a crash on Jan. 1, shortly after the new year began, on eastbound I-70 near the 18th Street Expressway in Kansas City, Kansas.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Nissan Armada was eastbound when a black sedan cut it off about 12:35 a.m. Jan 1.
The Armada swerved to the left, the driver lost control and struck the barrier wall, overturning and coming to rest on the passenger side, according to the trooper’s report.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Independence, Missouri, was taken to a hospital with a possible minor injury, the report stated.
A 16-year-old female passenger from Independence, Missouri, also was taken to a hospital with a possible minor injury, according to the report.
The two occupants of the SUV were not wearing safety restraints, according to the trooper’s report.

A Kansas City, Kansas, man accidentally shot himself in the stomach while preparing to celebrate the new year, according to a social media post from the police chief.
Although celebratory gunfire and discharging guns here is illegal, the man was preparing to shoot a .22 caliber handgun at midnight to celebrate the new year, according to the police chief’s post.
When the man placed the gun on the couch, it accidentally went off, hitting him in the stomach, according to the chief. The police chief stated that the man is expected to recover.
