About $609,403 was given away to charitable agencies Thursday through the Hollywood Casino and SVV (Schlitterbahn) grants.
The funds are given to the Unified Government as part of agreements made with the casino and Schlitterbahn to provide funds for local charities. Agencies submitted grant applications.
UG commissioners then made the decision on what nonprofit agencies and programs will receive funds, and how much they receive. The final version of the casino grants was passed at Thursday’s UG Commission meeting, with no discussion.
This year, 49 programs were listed as receiving funds. The agencies submitted applications to the UG, listing how they would use the funds.
Each UG commissioner and the mayor gave away $54,764 in this year’s grant program, except for two commissioners who carried over a small amount of additional funds from last year.
Many of the commissioners split their funds among several groups, while one commissioner, Ann Brandau Murguia, gave the entire $54,764 amount to one organization, Argentine Betterment Corp.
Nine agencies that applied for grants did not receive any money, according to the list located on p. 503-504 of the UG agenda for June 28 at www.wycokck.org. More details about exactly how much each individual commissioner allocated to the recipients are on the agenda at p. 503.

The Kansas City T-Bones offense did their part Friday night in Texas, scoring 13 runs, but it was not enough as the Cleburne Railroaders blistered the Kansas City pitching staff for 14 runs.
Cleburne came back from deficits of 4-0, 5-4, 9-7 and 13-7 to win it 14-13 in walk-off fashion.
T-Bones got on the board early in Texas with Dylan Tice scoring on an RBI double from Todd Cunningham. He went home when Zach Walters hit a single and Keith Curcio’s double sends Walters and Taylor Featherston home to put the T-Bones up 4-0.
The Railroaders tied it up quickly with T-Bones pitcher James Buckelew allowing two home runs in a row. Buckelew continued to struggle, ultimately being replaced by Jackson Lowery in the bottom of the second.
The T-Bones were able to take back the lead in the third, with Adrian Nieto scoring on a wild pitch, putting the score at KC 5, Cleburne 4.
The back-and-forth continued with neither team breaking away as the Railroaders scored one in the bottom of the third to tie it back up and then took the lead in the bottom of the third, Cleburne 6, KC 5.
The T-Bones were not to be outdone, however, and after struggling in the fourth, they scored four in the top of the fifth to take back the lead. Nieto, Curcio, and Davis got the RBIs in the electric inning for the T-Bones.
The inning started with a Zach Walters double, and the hits just kept coming. Featherston singled, as did Nieto and Curcio. Kjerstad walked and Davis hit the double that sent Nieto and Curcio home. Todd Cunningham was the last T-Bone to get a hit for the inning, but they were stopped at four runs, putting them up KC 9, Cleburne 7.
Mazzoccoli came in to pitch for the T-Bones to start the bottom of the fifth and got two of the three outs with strikeouts. The sixth inning was scoreless for the T-Bones and the Railroaders.
In the seventh the T-Bones really let loose, Dylan Tice scoring one and Adrian Nieto smashing a three-run home run, KC 13, Cleburne 7.
A grand slam home run put Cleburne back in contention, but they weren’t able to eclipse the T-Bones’ lead. Sam Street came in to pitch in the bottom of the eighth and walked his first two hitters before the Railroaders tied it, KC 13, Cleburne 13. All tied heading into the bottom of the ninth, with two outs Cleburne hit a home run and broke the T-Bones nine-game win streak. The two teams will face off again at 7:06 p.m. June 30 in Cleburne, Texas.

One week removed from an emotional comeback win over rivals Houston Dynamo, Sporting Kansas City ventures north of the Canadian border for a cross-conference showdown with the Montreal Impact at 6:30 p.m. Saturday inside Stade Saputo in Montreal.
Three hours of live television coverage will begin at 5:30 p.m. on FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest, while local radio broadcasts will air on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and ESPN Deportes KC 1480 AM (Spanish). The match will also stream live on FOX Sports GO for viewers in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa, as well as on ESPN+ elsewhere across the U.S.
Sporting KC boasts a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions, a streak that was extended last weekend after a remarkable second-half rally at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
Facing a 2-0 halftime deficit, the hosts stormed back behind goals from Daniel Salloi and substitutes Diego Rubio and Khiry Shelton to seal a wild 3-2 victory over the Dynamo. Manager Peter Vermes’ men haven’t lost since falling 1-0 to the New England Revolution on April 28.
Anchored by reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Tim Melia and 2018 MLS All-Star honorees Graham Zusi and Ilie, Sporting KC has enjoyed excellent defensive form on their recent travels.
The side has conceded just two goals in its last six away games in all competitions. Offensively, the club has seen staggering production from off the bench: Sporting KC has received a team-record eight MLS goals from substitutes in 2018.
Montreal endured a poor start to the 2018 campaign, losing 10 of their first 13 games under first-year head coach Remi Garde. The Impact have steadied their sails since then, however, and own three shutout victories over their last four games.
Evan Bush, who has 15 more saves than any other MLS goalkeeper, is amidst a 252-minute shutout streak, good for the longest active run in the league.
Talismanic playmaker Ignacio Piatti has played a pivotal role in Montreal’s resurgence. The 33-year-old Argentine has been involved in seven of the club’s last eight goals since the start of May, recording three goals and four assists.
Piatti leads the team in both goals (eight) and assists (six), while midfield newcomer and Algerian international Saphir Taider has created a team-best 32 scoring chances. Holding midfielder Samuel Piette serves as the defensive foil to Piatti and Taider, leading MLS field players in recoveries and ranking fifth in interceptions.
The head-to-head series has seen Sporting KC wield a decisive upper hand in recent years. The club boasts a 4-0-2 record in the last six meetings since 2014, outscoring the Impact 14-5 during that stretch. Sporting KC also owns a 3-1-2 mark at Stade Saputo, including a 2-2 draw on their last visit in June 2016.
The most recent battle between the sides resulted in a 1-1 draw last June at Children’s Mercy Park. Gerso Fernandes opened the scoring after 24 minutes, but Montreal’s Matteo Mancuso capitalized on a turnover to notch an 82nd-minute equalizer.
Sporting KC’s injury report had swelled to nine players earlier this month but includes just five names heading into Saturday.
Captain Matt Besler has missed three straight games with a hamstring strain and is listed as questionable, while the quartet of Gianluca Busio (hamstring), Felipe Gutierrez (hernia), Cristian Lobato (knee) and Jimmy Medranda (knee) will remain sidelined.
Montreal will also be without four players, defenders Zakaria Diallo (Achilles) and Kyle Fisher (tibia) and midfield duo David Choiniere (ankle) and Louis Beland-Goyette (foot).
